House of Cards Cast
But here it is: Netflix has published a set of really cool character cards for the series — which only serves to further up expectations after a recent outstanding trailer.
Anything else? Sure: Thanks, Phil, for sending this in.
...aaand Kate Mara should totally date me.

Fincher Eyes New Regency Deal
The rest of this news item has some of the vocabulary that typically gets thrown around, "edgy", "adult fare" (but not "dark" for once), but doesn't go so far as to put a new project up for debate. So would New Regency serve as co-producers in case Fincher's "20,000 Leagues" is happening with the Mouse House? What are they actually looking to get off the ground?
In short: It's always good to see Fincher setting up anything. "House of Cards" is looking so stunning, I'd watch the whole series at cinemas, and paying for it — which hey: doesn't that sound like a lucrative venue?
My kindest thanks to you many busy, wonderful contributors! Great job, once again!
Here's the news, please do make sense of it for me:

The Trials Of The House Of Cards Trailer
+++ UPDATED 2012/11/15 +++
So, wisely Netflix has decided to upload a crisp HD version of the trailer for this. Do ignore the rest of this post, and just enjoy splendid new HD Fincher imagery with just the right level of dark. Fantastic!
So the wild web went crazy today with a new trailer for HOUSE OF CARDS being released on Netflix, by Netflix — to a Netflix subscription-only audience.
While I seriously find this a very flawed business logic, there may be even more difficulty in viewing the trailer as commenters on several sites have indicated. It seems even with a Netflix membership you cannot view the trailer. You must be an actual subscriber.
Then also the international crowd gets left out, as Netflix is a U.S. exclusive service — which I suppose is fair enough, as the show will air exclusively on Netflix. So why tease you foreigners with something you ain't seeing anyway. Now that would just be cruelty (visually compelling cruelty, I'm sure).
At any rate, if you belong to the lucky leftover crowd that can actually see this: I hope you find it very enjoyable. Uhm. but do drop an opinion about it below, it would be greatly appreciated by the rest of us.
And Netflix: Seriously, can we get this on Youtube? It's a damn commercial for all sakes!

The Girl Who Might Not Return To The Big Screen Any Time Soon
Personally, I'd prefer Fincher's take on "Leagues" over a "Dragon Tattoo" sequel any day, as I feel it would be a new facette that we haven't seen from Fincher, and with Andrew Kevin Walker and possibly Brad Pitt this is just too good not to make it to the big screen. So yeah, I'm hoping for a quick greenlight from Disney, which, as The Playlist explains, either rules out the TGWTDT sequel altogether — or causes a severe setback at the very least.
In three month's time we shall know more. Maybe.
What are you guys more excited for?

20,000 Leagues Rumors
Seriously, this film already has so much going for it. Now, as Variety reports, Fincher tapped Brad Pitt for the role of sailor and master harpooner Ned Land.
The studio reportedly wants to arrive a decision whether to move forward with the picture in three months' time — oh, what a sweet New Year's surprise it would be!

Rest In Peace: Harris Savides
Cinematographer Adam Frisch posted this message on the Cinematography.com forum :
It's my very sad duty to report that Harris Savides has just died. Harris had been sick for awhile, but was as far as I know doing better. Don't know the final cause of death. Not only a brilliant DP and a true legend in his own time, but also by all accounts from people that knew him - a true gent.
Safe journey.
Savides was in my opinion the best cinematographer of his generation. His work on Zodiac and The Game was memorable and transcended Fincher's vision.
What he achieved on Glazer's masterpiece Birth is simply mesmerizing. I am, we are, very very sad to loose him.

Fincher Onboard "Halo 4" Trailer!
Wow! Amazing news. Fincher has exec produced the two minute live-action trailer with Tim Miller directing — Fincher's VFX superhero of choice (reponsible for TGWTDT opening titles).
Great news, anyway.

Fincher Criterion Style
Designer Midnight Marauder has an amazing Tumblr featuring fake Criterion covers and film posters. It includes takes on Fincher's Fight Club and TGWTDT.
The guy easily competes with Sam Smith and Neil Kellerhouse, don't you think?
Make sure to browse through his collection, there are some amazing stuff ('The Sorcerer', 'The Long Goodbye', 'Lady Snowblood', 'Alien'...). Will make you weep they're not for real. Hey Criterion, what are you waiting for?
